♨️ After a prolonged period of scorching heat, several areas in Bangladesh, including some districts in the Chattogram division, experienced much-awaited rainfall on Thursday (May 2). The hilly region of Khagrachari witnessed intermittent drizzles from the morning, bringing relief to the parched red soil and green landscapes. Although the thunderstorms preceding the rain were intense, the rainfall itself was not as heavy as expected.

☔️ Other parts of the country, such as Feni, Cox's Bazar, Dinajpur, Netrokona, and Rajshahi, also reported rainfall, albeit for a short duration. In Feni, the rain started around 8:30 AM accompanied by lightning, but it did not last long. While the sight of clouds and rain brought joy to the people, the scorching heat quickly returned as the rain subsided, with the thirsty soil rapidly absorbing the rainwater. Despite the brief respite, the rainfall provided a moment of solace amidst the sweltering weather conditions.

🏊 Principal Vaibhav Rajput of the primary school in Mahsaunapur village initiated this idea to encourage students to return. Now, children are able to continue their education while also finding relief from the scorching temperatures by swimming in the classroom, which has been equipped with a two-feet deep water tank. This unique approach has successfully brought students back to school.

🥵 The residents of Dhaka are suffering from the ongoing intense heatwave, with the significant increase in average temperature being identified as the main reason behind it. According to a report by the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies (CAPS), the average temperature in various parts of the capital has risen by more than 3 degrees Celsius between 2017 and 2024.

☀️ In particular, the highest temperature increase in Dhaka has been observed in the Mohakhali and Gulistan areas. In Mohakhali, the temperature has reached 41.05 degrees Celsius in 2024 from 33.50 degrees Celsius in 2017, indicating an increase of nearly 7.5 degrees. Similarly, in Gulistan, the temperature has risen from 34 degrees Celsius in 2017 to 40.08 degrees Celsius currently. Moreover, other areas of Dhaka, such as Motijheel, Dhanmondi, Tejgaon, Mirpur 10, and Farmgate, have also experienced similar increases in temperature. Experts believe that environmental pollution, unplanned urbanization, reduction of green spaces, and lack of necessary water bodies are the main reasons behind the rising temperatures in Dhaka.
